Steubenville Rape Case: Everything You Know Is Wrong
If you’ve heard about the Steubenville rape case and are trying to figure out what’s true, here’s a brief overview.
In this post, I link to some of the dozens and dozens of articles about Steubenville. Why all the focus from liberal media? Many of the stories focus on an anti-American narrative. Omnipresent themes are America’s Rape Culture and the danger posed by America’s Football Culture and how the American Justice System is a dismal failure. But what if all those sources were getting the story very wrong?
What if the story were being misreported on a grand scale, full of clear factual inaccuracies and claims that nobody is making; not the prosecution, the defense, the accuser, the suspects, the witnesses, the police, or anybody connected to the case.
What if all those sources had published complete factual fabrications that confused the case?
What if Anonymous had actually made things in the story much worse for everyone involved?
Among the widely reported and false claims:
- Steubenville is so corrupt that no justice is possible.
- There has been a massive cover-up in the case.
- The victim was drugged, put in a car trunk to bring her to a series of parties, urinated on, and left for dead in a field.
- That there a number of witnesses to the assaults who have not come forward.
- The school’s football coaches were involved in the night’s activities.
- That football players were given easy or preferential treatment in this case.
- No media was covering the case except for one blogger until Anonymous got involved.
- That no justice would happen in this case were it not for the intervention of Anonymous.
- The infamous video of Michael Nodianos joking has anything to do with the legal case.
To reiterate, those claims are rumors that are unsupported by evidence and yet if you click on any link to a story about the case, you’ll find any number of in whichever story you read. I’ll be picking them apart point-by-point.
This is not defending the suspect or attacking the accuser. Or vice versa.Nobody involved in the legal case is making these claims. This is correcting the record. As we lay out the facts on this blog, judge for yourself and ask for proof at every turn.
Steubenville : The Real Story 
Lee, keep on with what you’re doing. The truth and nothing but the truth. The transcripts don’t lie. It amazes me the people that come on twitter just to pick a fight with you. To call you a liar. To challenge you on the facts that you’ve presented. Like you’ve got some kind of agenda here. If you did, you’d be telling the story like Ms. Goddard.

So if you do it her way, you go out and read a bunch of teenager’s twitter accounts and put it together in their juvenile immature way of looking at things. Yeah, I’d take the word of a bunch of teenagers. Then start a blog and make it as salacious as possible, quoting those teens and letting the hometown gossip say whatever they want on the blog. Like a game of telephone. Bring in a bunch of juvenile immature internet criminal terrorists and have them take over a town and cause mass hysteria and fear. Sit back and watch all your buddies threaten and say vile things to anyone who might ask a question or challenge a “fact”. Yeah, I like the way she told the story. It really does lend itself credibility her way, doesn’t it. Oh, but wait, you’ve got to accuse every official in that town of corruption. Proof? What’s that? Joey’s flow chart? The six degrees of Steubenville.
She’s had ample opportunity to obtain the transcripts and revise anything she wrote but instead decided to let it stand on just teen gossip. Now she stands defiantly, retelling HER story to whoever will listen. That sounds pretty dangerous to me. This town and these people will never be the same. It’s criminal what’s happened outside of that night. So will she classify her book fiction. I’m sure that will be her end result.
I’m curious….why does Anonymous care so much about this, but yet defends Assange against his rape charges so vigorously? Also, I don’t recall an uproar from them about the Occupy movement having to set up “rape tents” to protect woman from rape in the Occupy camps. Makes you wonder…….
She is nothing but a liar and trouble maker…let her do what she thinks is right…she has no friends and she will get hers in the end….
I’m very much inclined to agree with you Lee. I have followed this strictly through media and have formed my own opinion. Unfortunately, the “Anonymous” group, seems to thrive on a “ganging up” attitude, and follow like sheep in a field, thus empowering themselves with a sense of euphoria. I ran into an episode with this “group” on Twitter, and during the moment, I referred to a “woman” as an “attention whore”. I was demanded (not asked) to delete ALL my messages, including private as these incriminated not only the woman, but also those who made threats of physical harm and death. I refused to delete anything , and in fact have contacted law enforcement. Needless to state, I am now the victim of being Dox’d, accused of being a rapist, wanting to attack a mother and daughter, and having a sexual conversation with a 10 year old at 3AM ! This “group” has gone so far as to create a website, in an attempt to “control” me, which I refused. Justicesec.com , is now in retaliation mode ! Call me what you want, but I have ALL my documentation screen saved for future needs!
Why do “people” with such an important message need to wear a mask ??

I noticed a major discrepancy in the pre-trial testimony. Cole says she was not naked on the floor; Westlake and Craig say she was naked. Somebody is lying. I can think of no reason for Cole to lie; Westlake and Craig could be colluding with prosecution. Further, they sat on the couch after the sexual incident and messed with her phone; she gave them the password – was she naked at this time? Must have been; seems odd. Was she naked when she woke up? Must have been, odd, she never mentions that.
I wonder if this was hashed out at the trial.
How could you be unbiased when you refer to the news outlets as the “liberal media”? And to things you disagree with as anti-American narratives? It’s obvious what side of the fence you’re on, why hide it with all this talk of an unadulterated presentation of the facts? It’s not true.
Thanks for the facts! All of my ancestors were from Jefferson Co., 2 even before the Revolutionary War-Saltsman had the 1st outpost in the Ohio River Valley. I presented a scholarship at the Big Red 41st Annual Aacademic Awards Banquet 133 scholarships in addition to 20 Community Awards were presented that day. Only 2 Community Awards and 5 Academic Awards specified football players only. Another award is given every other year to a football player. 7 of 153 does not represent a town obsessed with football. I lived in Steubenville 2-3 years as a toddler. Of my many relatives who remain only 1 is critical of the football program for personal reasons that I believe are invalid. 3 boys in my family got football scholarships as have many-the only avenue to a college education.
Steubenville/Jefferson County can boast of a huge involvement in the Underground Railroad-have you seen the bricked over tunnel opening;1 of the 1st 13 Medal of Honor winners; inventor of the portable iron lung; numerous Civil War soldiers-17 in my own family; the engineer whose air conditioning installation in Saudi Arabia bested the King’s; the man in charge of rebuilding steel mills in Pittsburgh and Cleveland-he went on to manage KSaiser Steel during the war. There are many more examples of excellence related to the superior education they received in Steubenville.
