The Government Accountability Office issued a report on the Pigford “Black Farmers” Settlement yesterday.
They bury this information – here it’s on slide #24 in the report – but pay attention: they admit that Pigford claimants who claim they ‘attempted to farmer’ don’t need to provide any proof of their claims; all they need to do is sign a statement and they get $50,000 tax free on their good word. Furthermore, the GAO points out that the settlement was designed that way.
How has this worked out in practice?
The Women and Hispanic farmers settlements are open for business right now and use the exact same standards, or lack thereof — visit FarmerClaims.gov to fill out your form and claim you attempted to farm.
